sacred *[ mother mary ]

my sacred life - mary

i pass this holy candle everyday and i gain strength from
mary. the best part is - i bought this while krogering.
somedays i allow myself to get into such a funk, worrying
about the silliest things

why don't i have more clients
what if i never make anymore money
how can we survive on one income
when will i have something big fall into my lap
who is reading my blog

silly - silly - silliness.

recently the national news began chirping about the
finding of mother teresa's private journals - shocking
that she too suffered from self doubt. why wouldn't
she. she is human, after all.

i gain my strength daily from many women i adore...

woman who rise to the ocassion, women who
have graciously embraced me and all of my questions
and curiosities. woman who i have learned what
womanhood really is and my girls who are growing,
and are beautiful in every sense and woman who
believe in me, my friendship and my abilities.

my days are filled with constant reminders of
what truly matters. now if i can just embrace
that each day and get rid of those silly self doubting
voices.

hmmm....my sacred life

an isn't has nofun at all. no he disn't.
he never has birthdays, andthat isn't pleasant.
you have to be born,or you don't get a present.
a present! a-ha!now what kind shall i give....?

[from dr. seuss, happy birthday to you]

i have a frida pendant that i wear almost everyday. and
it amazes me when people ask if i know anything about her.
then they always make a big comment of [she was crazy,
or have you seen her art?! almost offended, and i get this
crazy sick gratitude, when i answer - why yes! because
i am
not at all offended by frida.

she is the butterfly.

ahead 10x10 and love wide 24x24 - mixed media paintings

these two pieces have been selected for the
downtown fall art exhibit. needless to say, after some
disappointing news last week, this has lifted my spirits.

i will say, when i saw the envelope in the post, i didn't
even want to open it. this is a juried show and these
two pieces will sit somewhere in a downtown storefront
window.

i am a happy chick!

i would say please come and be part of it, but those of
you i talk to are no where close, but i love that i can
share this bit of good news with you.

....and thank you to each of you gentle souls who have
encouraged me, supported me and held my hand along
the way.

remember katrina....

we sat and watched, horrified and saddened by what
we viewed from our living rooms. please remember the
victims of katrina. for those who died, those who sufferered
and those who are still, STILL waiting for help they were
promised.

my blessings are here:

3 gorgeous, healthy, funny kids
1 understanding, patient husband
1 silly pooch

the sturdy roof, that houses us safely
walls full of color, a studio that allows me
to retreat
and keep my sanity

my extended family of friends, who make me belly laugh

listening to marley, ben harper and the be good tanya's
discovering donovan frankenreiter

and making it through 17 days of no refrined sugar, dairy
or wheatt. try it! you will feel better!

pick it up and fly

beginnings + new canvas

today is a new day, a fresh start of sorts. summer is
on its way out and i am working on a new game plan.
some days the life of a freelance designer is scary and dim,
but what else can you do - but pick yourself up and fly.
the last five weeks if i have learned anything it is that i am
surrounded by friends who believe in my abilities, my talents
and simply ME. i am a blessed chickadee and i honor that.

peace, ya'll

bless my soul *[brunette]

blonde to brunette

one christmas, my sister erin
and i each got a brand new
sleeping bag and a doll. not
just any doll, but the velvet
and chrissy dolls. you could
make there hair grow, by
cranking a knob in there
back.

our sleeping bags were the
most groovy bags ever! red
with mod flowers all over it
and each flower was wrapped
with these phrases....

[ redheads are for real ]

[ blondes have more fun ]

[ brunettes are groovy ]

wednesday i decided that i had
had plenty of fun and now i just
wanted to be groovy.

groovy + brunette = groovy kelly

i jump everytime i catch a glimpse
of myself in the mirror!

day12

my daily grind

the past 12 days i have been on a yeast detox.
in the past 12 days i haven't put any refined
sugar, flour or dairy into my body. no diet sodies,
peanut butter m&m's, not even a bag of popcorn
touched my lips at the opening of friday night
frenzy.

days 2-5 were filled with exhaustion and a
headache that felt like someone had split my
head in two, with an ax. i took a nap each of
those days at 4pm sharp. by day 5 and 6, my
head felt clear and my body felt light. not at all
like my daily dose of heaviness and foggy brain.

today is day 12. Day 17-i will finish this journey.
i have lost approx. 6lbs in 12 days and i work
hard not to focus on the weight lost, but how
good my body feels. i have also been walking
in the mornings. have i told you how i hate to
get up at 4:40am to walk by 5am?!

I AM NOT A MORNING PERSON!

considering that i am surrounded by friends who
have no willpower where food is concerned. we
have all taken on the complacent attitude of
if you want it, eat it, this wasn't an easy process
to start. but i simply decided to treat myself to
a bit of good health. so i just don't go out to dinner
with anyone. instead i stay home and eat fresh
foods - it does make a difference!

of course, as with any detox or diet, the trick
lies in the days following - i remind myself each
day - DO NOT GO BACK TO YOUR UNHEALTHY
WAY OF LIVING!

here is what my days were filled with, little mexico,
bags and bags of peanut butter m&m's, diet pop,
sugary cereal, beer, margaritas on the weekends,
large portions. it is no wonder i have put on 30lbs
since bryce and i got married. and no wonder that
when i get out of bed each morning i felt terrible -
body aches, my feet ache, heart palpatations,
short of breath.

since i have started this, the inflated tube, i call
my belly has greatly diminished, i sleep better, go
to bed earlier and feel alert through out the day.
and i am not having sugar crashes.

can i get an amen?!

it amazes me that we all complain about our
bodies, how we ache, that our stomachs are
upset and the answer is so simple - we are a
society of induldgence and convenience. growing
up - my parents had a huge garden. my mom
canned all summer so that we had healthy foos
all winter - on our table. we may have eaten
out once a month. today - we are zipping through
drive-thrus to nourish our children. we just can't
understand why our kids behavior is so erractic,
yet we continue to shove tv dinners and mcdonalds
down their throats, because mommy and daddy
have other things to do, that are more important.

me - i am guilty!

instead of running to the doctor and sit there
while they write out another prescription or even
worse - put our child on an anti-depressant or
ridalin. why don't we slow our lives down and do
something simple like.....live as we are intended
to live.

when my family slows down, eats together - we
get along better, we are more productive and
happier.

just some thoughts.....happy friday ya'll

on my 40th, my sister and cheri' surprised me

good morning' america - how are ya!

my sun august 13 backyard

school is back in session!

miz c is wearing a shiney pair of silver flats, that have
have yet to be broken in. I warned her - i would not
be bringing more comfortable shoes through the school
doors. i repeat....I would not bring the shoes! i will
lay down a $20, i will get a phone call from the school.

silly kids, you are so predictable.

the house is eeriely quiet. no bickering, no shut-ups being
exchanged - ah bliss. my domain has been given back
to me - peace at last. as of last nite, i was screaming
"serenity now!" [in my head of course]

just 11 short years ago, i was standing in the
driveway,
with a little squirt and his back pack, his
younger sister swirling around us on the tricycle - as
we waited for the big yellow bus to pull up and swing
that heavy door open. doogan, their favorite of bus
driving, smiling from ear to ear. we occassionally run
in to him at a store, the kids always so happy to see
him again.

today that squirt begins his sophomore year. the
swirling chickadee on the tricycle - she is now
roaming the 8th grade halls.

liz elayne at be present, be here - interviewed
me to other day, via email. she is such a sweet

down a very hectic - high strung week. so hop
on over and check it out if you would like. she
also has some really fun totes and flag sets on

thanks liz! i can't wait to meet up one day

goodness

goodness....i am tired, worn out.

it was a HUGE week last week. so many
exciting things. the printer sent me a lovely
care package with several final pieces that
i designed. YIPPEE! they were a success.
i love taking an old design and transforming
it - fresh and new.

i have a feeling that this week won't be any
mellower. but as i do everyday, one foot in
front of the other.

i put myself out there last week, we will see
if anything comes of that. i also packaged
up a disk with 3 of my paintings to be juried
for the fall art show. finally after 2 years of
saying, this year i am going to submit, i did it.
and....we will see if anything comes of that!

happy monday!

newly finished piece - [let go]
on the way to etsy....soon

i have been tagged by miz amanda
1.) We have to post these rules
before we give you the facts.
2.) Players start with eight random
facts/habits about themselves.
3.) People who are tagged write their
own blog post about their eight things
and include these rules.
4.) At the end of your blog, you need to
choose eight people to get tagged and
list their names.

~Don’t forget to leave them a comment
telling them they’re tagged and they
should read your blog.~8 random things
about me:

1. i dream of building my own tree house,
where i can sit under soft lite reading,
taking long naps and dangling my legs
over the side as i sip an ice cold beer.

2. i cry at commercials, because i can
always relate them to something in my life

3. i develop crushes....a lot. and b
knows about everyone. he is the
coolest husband, not at all jealous. but
if he told me he had a crush - i would
want to rip her eyes out

4. i am jealous/envious by nature. i
hate this characteristic

5. i am a closet smoker. i know - it's
gross. last summer i hid a pack of
cigarettes in my studio, sealed in a
ziplock - they are better fresh!
and when bryce would leave, i would
sneak out on the deck and smoke.
then i would bury the butt in the
chimnaria.

6. i have a learning disability. i have
known for years something wasn't clicking.
school sucked! but last year i went to
be tested for ADD, nope reading disability.
i feel better now.

7. i am a strong swimmer, but i have a
fear of drowning, i am also claustrophobic,
hate bridges and when i was little i always
thought someone was under my bed.

8. i hate going into parties. i don't like
that feeling of everyone looking at you
as you walk into the room.

okay...i am going to be the loser and
just say - whoever wants to play along
play along. the girls i know have already
been tagged! yikes!

this little girl went wee wee wee wee wee.....all the way home

this girl was part of the [girls nite out] fundraiser for the
"caroline harmon fund". someone very dear to me decided
to take
her home. in two short hours we raised $1800
there were tears, plenty of laughter, hugs - just plain old
kindess given by every chick who walked in the door.

i am so happy i was able to be part of it all. caroline's
family has received some bummer news. the first bone
marrow transplant didn't work as planned, so they are at
square one again....this time trying a double cord transplant.

as a mother, you can't even digest the pain they are
dealing with. we just do our best to support, love and
keep our sick children held high in prayer.

visit caroline here....
blessing ya'll.....now go hug someone and pass out
many smiles today!

home

6+ hours, journey home

at hour five i looked at bryce and asked him
if he
had a sharpened pencil that i could
stick in my
eye. after we got the kids
dropped off at their necessary destinations,
bryce and i drove back towards middle
indiana surrounded by high corn fields and
telephone poles. we called arnis as we
pulled into town, picked up the stromboli
and salad and headed home. poor delilah
was beside herself as we walked through
the front door, tail whipping anything it
came into contact with.

most of the vacation was good, i got to
read, sit by the pool and walk the dunes.
6 days was too long for 17 people. but
getting to see my 70 year old dad perform
a can opener off the diving board, while
his 10 grandkids bobbed up and down in the
shallow end, chanting...grampy - grampy

made all the crap worth it.

grampy and g...perfecting the can opener - g's smile, says it all.

heading up the rode to sunny
michigan for a family vacation.
no - seriously, my whole
family is going. 15 people in one
vacation house. not my idea of
vacation, but i am going to
have fun no matter what!

i am so excited about finally
taking gabe and clancy
somewhere. the noise level
will be out of control and i am
sure the beer and cocktails
will be flowing. life is good.

it has taken me 3 months
to fire up for this little
getaway - i can honestly
say i am
happy to go.

how do you live

How You Life Your Life
You seem to be straight forward, but you keep a lot inside. You're laid back and chill, but sometimes you care too much about what others think. You prefer a variety of friends and tend to change friends quickly. You tend to dream big, but you worry that your dreams aren't attainable.

i have to say this is right on! with the exception of the friends.
i do love to meet new people, but i am very loyal. so how
do you live?

on a quick personal note....if anyone has a bit of time and would

like to visit a sweet little soul - please stop by and say hola to

adversity...how i deal with it.

she blooms....SOLD!

miz marisa of creative thursday
has tagged me in a "secret's of
dealing with adversity" podocast.

yesterday i had all these ideas
and thoughts that i was going
to share. but this afternoon...
i got a strong dose of displeasure
and it made me take a more
honest look at how i deal with
unpleasant issues.

first let me say, i am a scorpio...
i am passionate, loyal and extremely
jealous in nature. i hate the jealous
one, i truly do. i am also moody.
so when i have to deal with one of
life's curve balls, some days, i am
pretty much embarrassed by what
transpires. i end up with a pouty
attitude, i slip into the woe is me
syndrome and why is this dark
cloud hanging over my head. now
i will say that these less than attractive
ways are generally saved back for
bad haircuts, leaky faucets/pipes and
lemon cars. if we have a major health
issue, family/friend emergency, then
i can step up and say this is life and we
will make it through. for me, my unattractive
dealings tend to be when it has to do withme
personally. i do tend to suffer from low
self esteem, but as i get older, it last much
shorter spurts, of the woes. and in the creative
world, the less you take to heart the better.
i learned in college to take critiques and a
positive
step, even the ugly ones. it is only
helpful to listen to feedback and use it in a
positive manner. please... for those of you reading
this and know me personally
you don't need to
remind me of my short comings in
this dept. i do
realize i am not 100%....but who is.

at the age of 21 i gave birth to a beautiful baby
girl. not only was i not married, but she was
bi-racial.
recently a dear friend reminded me
of my courage
and strength that i used while
raising her in a lilly
white world. what most
people considered an adverse situation, i
considered only one thing, she
was a godfilled
blessing, she was born -as we all are-
for a purpose.

2 years ago, i took a huge leap and some days
a huge pay cut, to start my little freelance studio.
in a career
driven world....i take this as another
god filled blessing,
that i am able to create on a
daily basis and get to be a
full time mom to my kids,
who are proud of me. on days when checks aren't
coming in, i remind myself on the fact that - this is
my gift in life.

and most current days, when life shoves something
seemingly unpleasant at me - i instantly think of
henry tucker and caroline harmon. if you take time
to think of what others are dealing with, our own
adversity doesn't really seem like adversity. of
course, i am not
perfect, like i said i am a scorpio...
i have to work at this!

on a happy note, today [she blooms] sold. it was
really
hard to part with her. she was my first
true "the girl" piece. i didn't like her at first, but
when i hung her on
the hallway wall, next to the
studio, i fell in love, so when the buyer showed
interest i had to really suck it up and let her go.
but she has found a fun place to hang with a pretty
funky chick who carries warhol train bags....

see each thing that we meet in life is just a simple
lesson, a blessing and eventhough at the moment
- it may not seem to be, it is just that.

holy crapola...i just realized that i didn't tell you
what my strong dose was today! bryce suggested
that we go to the mac store to finally purchase a
laptop. yes, i am a designer and i live without
a
laptop. so we toodled over to keystone at the crossing,
to give a look see. as we entered the doors, i looked and
bryce and said" what
the hell is this". lawn chairs
strategically positioned in three straight
rows and a
security guard. IPHONE....people sitting waiting for a
$600 phone. and then the bad news. mac store closed
for 4 hours to prepare for phone sales and then when
the reopen tonight, only phone sales...the
wind left my
soul for a quick moment. as bryce laughed, i could
envision myself kicking him in the shins. so now i am
laughing about the lunacy of it all. at the moment,
i played the part of the victim, which i seem to do with
such grace! like veruca salt said.... "but daddy i want
it now!"

what is your secret?

6.24.2007

bless my soul *[original]

original...that is me. what you see is pretty
much what you get. now if i could just
remember where i left that self-confidence
and we will be back to normal.

after a good tongue-lashing, from my friend
miz becky. and a few others - i am feeling
so much better. its just that - a lot of people
look to me as the rock. but some days, i just
can't do it. that was last week. too many
crazy things came up and i let me mind
wander too far out. but i listened to myself,
my friends and thought of henryboy and
miz caroline. that always puts you back to
reality!

and speaking of originals.....i have put 4
originals from [thegirl] series on etsy....

today

today...i wish i had the ability to write great,
inspiring ,insightful things. my mind is full of
thoughts and views, but to get them down
- here, seems
to be impossible. from my head
to my fingers
something gets lost, jumbled,
confused. i get
frustrated with what i say
here, i don't think it
makes sense. i have a
dear friend whose husband
is extremely
smart. actually i am surrounded by i.q.
freaks. i am married to one. i wasn't blessed
in that way when i was born. -sorry back to
the story, he corrects my grammar and
actually
i love him for it. his wife is mortified
when he
does this, the only problem for me
is that my brain won't allow me to store it.
i have no short term rention, which sucks
because i love to read - studying is not a
pleasant thing for
me and never was. for 2
days i have done nothing
but have crying
spells. for a number of reasons,
jobs have
hit me again. 5 big jobs all at once and
i have
to get them done, who know when the next
will come in. kids are home for the summer, we
did
great for 2 weeks - but this week, another
story. bryce is teaching summer tennis and
driver's ed.
this week our lives has spun out
of control. i feel
used up, chewed up and spit
out.

today...
i am feeling this urgency to move
forward, but it seems like all my limbs are
being tightly held. i
feel like the time is now
to jump and find where
i fit in - in this world
of art. ihave so many ideas spilling out of this
crazy mind of mine, but nowhere
to go with
them, no time to get them on my canvas
full of
colors. i do know there is a place for me out
there,
but finding the time to research, that is
the kicker!
sometimes bryce gives me that look of well just do
it - i think he has a sick need to get
his pretty
little face smacked. easier said than
done. it is
the end of june and we have sat on
our deck once
this summer. now that is craziness!

i truly apologize for having a crappy attitude today.
with all the suffering, illness and abuse out there,
i sound like a blubbering spoiled baby. but this is
where i can vent, i needed to get it out. i need
to stops the @#$#%@% tears.

i do know where my blessings lie......
my retreat, my studio
my friends who make me laugh uncontrollably
nick coming to give me a big hug [he had
just been with c in paris]
my growing garden
and the 5 housemates who some days just
about send me over the edge.

cheerio.....

and a woman spoke, saying, tell us of pain.
and he said: your pain is the breaking of the
shell that encloses your understanding. even as
the stone of the fruit must break, that its heart
may stand in the sun, so must you know pain.

and could you keep your heart in wonder at the
daily miracles of your life, your pain would not
seem less wondrous than your joy;

and you would accept the seasons of your heart,
even as you have always accepted the seasons
that pass over your fields. and you would watch
with serenity through the winters of your grief.

much of your pain is self-chosen. it is bitter

your sick self. therefore trust the physician,
and drink his remedy in silence and
tranquility:

for his hand, though heavy and hard, is guided

has moistened with his own sacred tears.

bless my soul [henry tucker!]

there is a young lad in our sleepy little town,
whose
name is henry tucker. i have written
several times
about henry and his fight against
cancer. he is still
fighting. he and his family and
a large group of team
henry are asking for
prayers. today his lovely mom,
michelle started
his blog off with this.....

Even if you suffer from a long term-condition, there
is defiantely a way of not falling into despair. If you
are a a Buddhist, tell yourself: "consider the countless
beings that are suffering just like you and pray that
their suffering may help to appease theirs. If you do
not have the strength to reflect this way, the simple
fact of being aware that you are not alone and that
many others are in the same situation will help you
to bear your hardship.

If you are a Christain and you have faith in God as
creator of the universe, comfort yourself by thinking,
"i have not wanted this suffering, but there must be
a reason for it since God, in his compassion, has
given me life.

If you do not have any religious faith, you can think
that however terrible your misfortune, you are not
the only one to suffer in this way. Even if you have
no belief, try to imagine, above the area of your pain,
a vivid light that pervades and dissolves your pain,
and see if that helps.
-The Dalai Lama

she is a true hero as henry and his whole family are
to those
of us who check in daily with them. i am so
drawn to the
tuckers and their story. my heart is
breaking knowing that
henry has had to endure such
obstacles in his young life. today the tears have finally
caught up with me. he is such a champ.

please take a moment to pray, meditate or offer up
whatever it is that makes you feel at peace. ask
that henry, is peaceful
and happy, surrounded with
a powerful light of hope, strength
and continual
peace - love - grace.

saturday aches

little miz campbell, the aviator
i woke up this morning with my neck out of sink.
i hate feeling like this, allergy season is weighing
heavily on my body.

we had a long week and i am not sleeping well.
of course, that could be because, i am burning
the candle at both ends again, not eating right
or exercising and i need to get back into surrounding
myself with those who i love most.

on the brite and happy note - i am painting in the studio
almost daily. fresh varnish coats my latest creations
and campindigosoul will soon be live, along with the happy
girl etsy shop. my feet are barely touching the ground
i am so damn excited!

my life is filled with many blessings, but today i ask
that you send prayers and zen to these amazing
heros in my life, each who are hanging tight in the fight
against cancer. they and their loved ones are my
daily reminders of what life is truly about.

happy yard, mothers day 2007

mothers day was spent in the yard, planting,
moving, fixing and spreading. sipping cold
beer, uhing and ahing over all my new buddahs
and such. it was a gorgeous day, where a long
drive took us to a local greenhouse that carrys
many eclectic flowers and art. i giggle each time
i look out over the yard and see our creations.

how did you spend your day.....
