mothers and daughters

...vinegar and oil
...black and white
...somedays my relationship with my mom is like
me trying
to squeeze my size 12 butt into
my size 8 jeans - it just don't fit.

what is it about mom's and daughter's. my mom has
been stopping by on
monday mornings after her swim.
it has been nice, we really don't get to see each other much.
we talked for about
a half hour and the next thing i know she
is in tears. she begins to say how painful it is for her to see
my unhappy. [i am not unhappy]
she doesn't understand
why i have low
self-esteem [i don't either, but i know it is
something
i have to work on everyday]. she thinks it is
because she starved herself while she was pregnant and she
only gained ten lbs and that this affected
my chemical makeup.
[i disagree]. the whole time my head is reeling with questions.

wondering what in the hell i said to upset her. she is crying
and the things she is saying are really upsetting me. it was like
a bad train wreck. i love my mom very much, but i will be honest,
she drives me nuts. the things that i don't like about myself
are the same thing that i don't like about her. we are moody,
we can be set off easily. we feel deeply. and as she is
giving me all of this grief i am thinking - jesus, you are talking
about yourself. but my mom is 65 years old. i don't think
she can handle what i have to say to her. when i do try to
be honest about any subject, she get very nervous and shuts
down the conversation, because she can't handle what i am
saying.

i grew up in a very close knit, strong willed family, traditional
family. my mom and i weren't especially close when i was young.
i was very attached to my dad. and i have realized that if i
want to be close to mom, then i was going to have to include
her more in my life. and i did and it got better. but as my
parents grow older, my once young at heart parents are getting
old. they bicker constantly. my mom has always taken the back
seat to my dad. he makes the decisions, pays the bills, calls the
contractors, etc. she doesn't like it when i call my husband out
about something. i think she equates this with an unhappy marriage.
but i have learned that if i need something from my husband, i need
to tell him. i am extremely independent. i don't need my husband
to call a contractor, to pay my bills [eventhough he does], i can take
off for the day and drive wherever i want to go and i like it that way.
and i can't stand it, that my mom is so dependent on my dad. i
consider it a weakness. and this, as i said earlier, goes very deep.
i won't bore you with all of the whinnie details. i just need to
vent.

i am so angry at my mom at the moment. this happens all the time.
she wants to discuss something, but shuts me off the minute she
is uncomfortable with the details and i have told her this. today
i said to her, that she can't come to my house and expect me to
be someone i am not. i won't conform to what todays world thinks
a woman should be. life is dirty, it is scary, dark and somedays
rather gloomy. but i know this and i am okay with dealing with
it. i am not a morning person, so don't come over in the morning.
don't ask me what i think and then be upset because i am honest
with my answer. don't label me when you have no clue what my
day has been like. and don't, don't assume there is something
wrong - when there isn't.

messy messy messy. my mom left in tears and i was left trying
to figure out my part in this whole thing and how i am going to
move on and not be really angry with her.

on a lighter note, the opening superbowl act should have been
the half time extravaganza! wow...i could have watched stevie
wonder and his crew all night! too bad the ads were so weak.
although there were a couple decent ones.

sorry this has been so glum, but it does feel good to blow
off a bit....

oh happy monday, everyone!

girlies

this is heather and myself in about 1998.
heathers hair is longer, mine is shorter.
and if she ever wanted to wear that outfit
again i would scream..."what not to wear,
what not to wear!"
we have been pals for a very long time.
since 1998 she has finished law school, had a baby
and passed the bar.

i have finished school, fell in love, married bryce
and changed jobs 3 times.
we have watched 3 of our kids graduate
high school and her two step kids are now engaged.
she and tom were with bryce and i the night we
got engaged in front the the perry's motel on
the beach [daytona]. they were waiting for us with
a bottle of bad champagne at the sea wall.
we have been known to shop with walkie talkies.
we have shown our tattoos off in the silver dollar

sometimes a pez dispenser is referred to when describing
our laugh, blow horns also come to mind.
she can sing a mean coppacabana [watch out manilow]

they celebrated our wedding by traveling back to daytona
with us for our honeymoon. [separate rooms of course]
i was in the delivery room when she and tom welcomed
matthew paul into our big extended family.
i have saved her from heel munching jean seams
she has saved me from taking myself too seriously.
she is a law-yer, i am a designer.
she has issues with control, i have issues with balancing
a checkbook.

she has to wear professional wear, thank you lord i get
to wear jeans and a t-shirt daily.
she is a big fat giggle in my life.
we lean on each other daily.
lucky...

it was sad this past weekend. i have finally
had to make a very hard decision about what
to do with our pup - gavin leo. we have had
him for 5 years this february. he came home
with us all the way from atlanta, georgia - he
was only 7 weeks old. he is a yorkie and so
adorable. but he was the runt and is a very
hi-strung pup. our house is filled with kids,
walkers go past daily and in all honesty, he
has been on sensory overload. he has bit
3 people since summer - never breaking the
skin thankfully. but bit a friend of mine and
left a bad mark. thankfully i know her well and
she loves animals and was very understanding.

so i had to sit the kids down and tell them that
we would have to look for a new home for him.
2 weeks ago my sister, erin, called to say she
knew a lady who would love to have gavin. she
is a widow and has a 10 year old yorkie, tucker.
so i called and we went over all the details and
agreed that she would take him for 7 days to see
how gavin and tucker would get along. i also
made sure that i explained all his bad habits, so that
she knew what she was getting into.

saturday, i packed up his most prized possessions
and i drove him to brownsburg to meet his new
family. as heather and i pulled into the drive, we
saw a sign on the door that said "welcome gavin"
it even had streamers. as the opened the door
her daugther was video taping gavin's grand entry.
to my amazement, tucker and gavin look like twins!
donna has a yorkie bathroom that is filled with pictures
of tucker. i knew that he would be happy there.
but i did cry myself to sleep saturday nite. and i
the last two morning i have looked in clancy's room
to see if he is in his usual napping spot, on her bed.
its funny how you have such habits.

i will take the kids this weekend to say goodbye if
they choose to keep him. gabe and clancy are sad
but they know we will get a new puppy that is a better
fit with such an active household.

so baby gavin, that is what they call him, is at his new
house and i am amazed at how quiet the house has
been. i do miss him and it has been a very hard decision.
but such is life and i know he will be much happier with
tucker to play with everyday, and a more peaceful
environment to live.

studio friday [practice makes perfect}

hmmm.....practice makes perfect. oh if only
i let this be true. wow this is a really hard
thing for me. you see, i am one of those people
who watch from afar and only wish and dream
that my life was like someone else's, my art
was as good as others, i was a thin as such
and such. so i tend to sabotage myself before
i even get started. i really do!

but i am learning. i laugh at myself alot. take
for instance to self portrait above. i am constantly
using my digital to get a good shot of myself. i
have probably taken over 100 pics of me! i have
saved 5! oh do i laugh at those pictures. oh the
faces i make. do i really look like that? is that
how people see me? ughhh. but i keep pluggin
away.

my art....boy, i really am searching for my style.
i have one. but i just have to start puttin g it
on canvas. i have tons of sketches, doodles, ideas
written out. but i am so afraid to produce. you can
see some of my attempts and next to them are my
mati prints i just got in the mail! i can't wait to get
them framed and hung. check out her stuff here....
they are even better in person! and on my big envelope
she drew one of her flowers with MY company name -
oh so sweet! so i guess what i am saying is - one day
if i practice - maybe i will be the artist that mati is.
[*oops the artist that kelly will be!]

practice makes perfect [at least that's what mama used to say]

something

yesterday, i had nothing. but

thanks to some very sweet chickies....
i sat myself down, wiped away the self
sabotaging thoughts and went to work.
now this is just my start, but with that
came a series that i am going to work on.
i would like to get started with maybe
5 pieces. i also brought out an old
idea for another series. my goal is to
enter our art exhibition in the fall.

so you heard it here people....kelly
is going to stop the self loathing, she
is going to stop sabotaging her chances
to get out there and produce -

the girl
is born!

got nothing

wow...i am finding it really hard
to come up with anything to share.

things are busy at home, shuffling
kids here and there. finishing up
a few jobs and of course, plenty
of work around the house. but
that is all i have at the moment.
i continue to tell myself that i am
going to start painting again, i have
some ideas for necklaces and bracelets
that i want to try, but i just can't seem
to kick it in gear.

i do continue to read my daily blogs
and i love the inspiration and talent that
i find, but just can't seem to apply that
to my creative self. but the week is
young...we'll see what happens

finding the peace

superhero -
andrea scher says that
we need to do inventory to put the past
year to rest. not just making new resolutions,
but understanding what we did the past year.
we have to complete and find peace with) what
came before....ughhhh - who wants to drudge up

the past? well if she says we must - then i will!

2. losing out on a big job - annual report
3. still not being able to take art classes

the oh-so happy

15. ACCEPT ME! [this is a huge, big, whooping
undertaking for this girl who struggles so, with
low self-esteem. but hell i am 41 i need to start
sometime!]

sweet theme for 06...the year of accepting me!

looking for a re-SOLUTION!

once again....it has been forever since
i have posted. i just haven't had the
energy. i have continued to check out
all my favorite sistas, and i have made
a comment here and there. but i
just can't seem to find the energy to
post. most everyone is talking about
resolutions for this new year. me, i
don't have any. i never stick to them.
i have only completed several items on
my 41st list. and they are small things.
i continue to see the sweet projects that
everyone seems to be completing and
i get down, knowing that i am not creative
at the moment. i guess i am just on sensory
overload.

yesterday we put away all the decorations -
but when i got up this a.m., i realized i hadn't
taken down the wreath on my front door...teehee
so i will just leave it up a bit longer. cheri' moved
some furniture around in the living room - wow!
what a difference it makes to shuffle it around.
we were lumps after that. we watched hgtv and
uh-ed and ah-ed with all the homes.

so on this new monday morn.....

happy new years to each of you! i wish you and
yours much happiness and prosperity in this
new year. thank you for blessing me in 2005.

i am blessed!

blessings to each of you who
have filled
my life with such
joy this past year. i hold
i special place for all of you in my heart.
you have all
inspired me as an artist,
crafter, mother and as a person. so i say
be happy
enjoy the season, hug and
love those dear to you, remember those
who are suffering and pay it forward.

say hello those you pass on the street,
extend your hand when needed and
lets all smile more and pass it on.
i love the dave matthews video
where the guy goes out and hugs
anyone who will let him - priceless.

peace on earth and good will towards all.....

tah dah!...it's beginning
to look a lot like christmas

my decorating for the season.
a huge accomplishment that
was completed last nite

i found the tree i had been

cheerios

cheerios...i love a bowl with honey. not sugar,
honey. honey, because my mom was and is
a granola girl. we couldn't use sugar, bad....
we had to use honey. i was the kids who's
mother wouldn't let her eat sweets, so i craved
them. just like i craved cigarettes. i could
sit down and eat dozens of sugar cubes.
yeah....not a good thing.

this morning a ate a bowl of cheerios with honey...yum!

12.09.2005

studio friday [what was i thinking]

what was i thinking....
we took off to indy yesterday
knowing that there was a snow
storm coming - but we
went anyway. by the time
we got out of the mall at
5:45, there was about 6 inches
of snow on the ground.
what should have been
a one hour drive, turned
into almost 4 hours.

so in celebration of our

safe journey home, i threw
open my studio window and
scooped up a big bowl of
snow and built a mini snowman
for my studio [poor soul is melting
as i type] sorry frosty. i put him
in my new mug from starbucks -
isn't it cute!

ohhhh....happy friday [stay warm]

12.08.2005

dear john

i sat on my living room floor,
a freshman in high school.
i remember them interrupting
the show we were watching
such shock and sadness
your vision truly affected my
life....you are missed.

12.06.2005

studio friday [wild things]

more than anything the wild
thing in my studio is my alter-ego.
ohhhhh the things i would do - the
places i would go. but i have kids
to get on the bus, dinner to make
dust bunny's to sweep - ads to
build - invoices to send. ughhhhh

a key west christmas - sippin' my
red stripe, laying in the warm sun
listening to buffett....ahhhhhhh

bliss list

i know you may not want to see me on your way down from the clouds
would you hear me if i told you that my heart is with you now

[without experience there is
little wisdom] -apocrypha
today i had to go beyond my comfort

zone. i am not a full of stuff kind
of girl. i am no nonsense girl. i
don't like putting on aires to get the
job. today i had sell myself. i am
up against 2 marketing firms...yes
little ole me. the designer girl. the
girl who loves to lose herself in
her studio. she could stay in here for
days - no communication with the
outside world. safely warm in her
environment. today she met/stumbled/
sold/educated. today she went beyond
her comfort zone.

i laughed as i drove to the coffee shop.
giggling to myself that i was putting myself
out there. it has been 8 months since i have
had a face to face business meeting. i didn't
have a lot of info to go on. so in kelly style-
i threw it all together and gave it a big stir.
on the drive home i reminded myself what i
should have said.....but it is done and tomorrow
it starts over...beyond my comfort zone.

right on!

How You Life Your Life

You tend to deprive yourself of things you crave, for your own good.
You're laid back and chill, but sometimes you care too much about what others think.
You tend to have one best friend you hang with, as opposed to many aquaintences.
You tend to dream big, but you worry that your dreams aren't attainable.

give it a try....i found this on the lovely enid's
blog. dig her!

hope everyone is fat and sassy
after todays festivities...i know i am.

big day
and an early morn tomorrow.
going shopping
and leaving at
4:30am - need sleep
by the way. the
above is right on.
happy friday everyone!

yesterday we had snow in indiana. i am not
a winter person, but it was very pretty.

last
nite our basketball team had their opening nite.
bryce really wanted me to go, so i went along
[he is the high school athletic director] one of
our students walked in with a huge megaphone
and in years past, this may have been okay.
but the students today don't seem to have any
boundaries and he of course was taunting the
opposing teams cheerleaders - so bryce had
to go sit with the students and ask him to
put the megaphone down. as we left the game
the student of course was confrontational and
bryce told him again that the megaphone won't
be in his gym. that boy was not going to back
down! so my feathers ruffled i told him i couldn't
believe how he acted and he was very disrespectful.
and then he stared me down and made a face like
you do to you mother when you are small. at the
time it really angered me. sitting here typing, i am
giggling. our admin tend to be very laxed with our
kids. they can't be disciplined. and i know i sound
very old when i say this, but i know what the result
would have been had i pulled that as a teen. needless
to say - i don't like what my husband does for a living.
he works very long hours making sure that things run
smoothly and the kids/coaches/fans are safe and taken
care of. it pains me to see how poorly he is treated.
most of the kids know that when i am around, don't step
out of line, i will call you out. but this kid doesn't know
me and i know had i continued the words, he was along
for the ride. so i did what any supportive wife would
do - i sat silent on the way home till bryce mentioned it
to the other coaches and then - i let her rip. so with all
my venting done - i send many blessing to the young
lad and his family...i really do!

seems it is thursday again and thankgiving.

here is my list...

cheri' is home . good friends . our health
good food today . my in-laws . our home

happy thanksgiving everyone....blessings galore

i finally was able to hang my
new

dining room. i looks so good
in there. i love walking through
the family room and seeing it

happy - it makes me smile.

one more penelope to get.
i just need to call silver

still there.

purge

purge -purj- vt. purged, purging -purus,
clean +agere, do- 1
to cleanse of impurities,etc.
2
to cleanse of sin 3 to rid -a nation, party, etc.
- of -individuals held to be disloyal- 4 to empty
-the bowels- -n. 1 a purging 2 that which
purges, eps., a cathartic - purg'er

5
black trash bags full of - well a bunch of trash!
not to mention 2 bags for goodwill. the 2.50 spent
on orange trash stickers is well worth the investment.

one whole weekend spent purging the house. my
throat is sore from the inhaling of all the dust
bunnys forming around every nook and cranny. but
damn the house is clean and tidy. and by ridding
my house of clutter - i feel alive - alive i say!

my family is famous for passing on crap. my parents
come to the door with grocery bags full of it - simply
stating, "we thought the kids might like this" - like
what? the 10 bags of old varsity football practice
gear that is 5x sizes too big. or perhaps the stale
triscuits begging for a slice of moldy cheese. or my
brother-in-laws 4" binders full of old glaxo welcome verbage,
all the glaxo bags full of convention freebies - hey frank.
Just throw the shit out, we don't want your
junk. - wow that felt good.

so one room left - the studio. 3 hours should be
enough to straighten up, put away and maybe
even sit a spell and crochet. amazing how
happy it made me just to move the dogs food
and snacks to a new nook in the kitchen.

a blessed sunday...

studio friday [sweetness]

sweetness...no one likes the sweet
more than me. but at the moment
i have no sweets hidden to munch
on later - however i have finally
purchased a SWEET laser printer.

Yippee! i think i am finally done with
my 2005 list o' big purchases. b is

i was laughing while telling heather [bf] about how stupid i looked in them and that i was going to have to take 60 just to get a decent shot. so of course she begged me [commanded]to post the bad ones. there is no way in hell i would do that [dig the insecurities] so here you bossy butt - sorry when kelly holds the camera she gets to choose. you aren't the boss of me! -bottom left notice i am using the hands to pull back on the dreaded double chin...hee

need to create

so my best friend whimpered
and whined at lunch today informing
me that i needed to add something
to my blog. and since i needed to
create [and she is in control of the
whole damn world...hee], i got out
my color markers
and went to town
in the old moleskine.
too much fun.
i think i could doodle
all the long day.

i also want to add that tom is a proud

new uncle of miss kasey....i am sure
he will have top notch photos on his
site soon. it is nice to see him so
happy about something, well other
than having lunch with me. i mean
really, i have such an endearing personality,
how could you not be happy when around
me. [quit laughing heather].

happy tuesday!

studio friday [secrets]

ohhhhh those dirty little secrets - this is what
i am keeping secret. and the secrets are two-fold...

1. my husband doesn't know about these purchases

(that's right tom, i have NOT told him about the
penelope yet)
2. i don't really want to share where i got them - i
like being the only one who knows about these
wonderful artists...

okay, i really do tell people about these great gals.
i send them to their websites, to the store on
mass. ave where you can buy a penelope. but
i love the fact that i have a great bunch of
sources where i can find something funky to
hang on my walls. i drool when someone says
where did you get that necklace [tine rocks]
or where did you get that artwork...oh that
came from california or an illustrator in indy.

i am just a simple girl...but oh it feels so good

sometimes to hear the uhs and ahs....thanks
girlys.

happy friday!
