simply awake

[surfin' on main]

it has been a long month for
many reasons, but through
the muck, i have also been
able to dig myself out and
feel renewed. i was able
to do that because i have
such a strong circle of family
and friends. even when i
get really down, scared and
full of fear. i do know that
it will be okay - my biggest
problem is that i DWELL on
too much negative. you know
the glass half empty. even
though i really know that it is
half full. this week i found
this on miz mawns site....
simple awakenings. yesterday
i was blessed when i was able
to sit down and talk with someone
that i truly admire as an artist.

she was kind, generous, and funny.

she put me at ease and when she
asked me "where do you want your
career to go" a light went off. just
a gentle simple nudge....as she says
[swoon!] so here are my simple
awakenings - blessings - loves....

...the twisted trio now living closer

...happy times with this chickie

...watching clancy run the bases,
guarding first & winning first round

...being a [creative] - sorry tom!

...preparing for our new pup

...cold watermelon

...wilted lettuce salad - fresh from our garden

...healthy - smart - funny kids

....b

...a cold yuengling - yummie!

happy thursday!

anticipation!

["Whoever said you can't buy happiness forgot
about little puppies."-- Gene Hill]

the new addition to our family will arrive in 3 more
weeks! she is one of the four airedale pups above.
she comes from a litter of eight....4 girls/4 boys.
her daddy is ernie - ch. stoneridge wings of airetyme

and mom is holly - orrick of stoneridge. both very
handsome pups! i think this just may be the big event
of the summer!
we will be heading to the chicago area
the weekend
of our anniversary to possibly see a game,
visit the
biggest show on earth [IKEA] and bring her home.
anything to get out of this lazy little town.

stay tuned...

need the zen

{lilac bush}

hello all...our house has been
so busy with getting our summer
yard presentable. yesterday
my mom and dad stopped by
with a lilac tree to plant. lilacs
are one of my favorites. if you
noticed the stake is a pitchfork.
that is an official trademark of
my dad. he uses whatever works.
i love it! very creative, resourseful
inexpensive and funky. it's going
to stay!

you would think summer would be

appealing, but this is when my kids
take off for the summer to stay with

their dad. as much as they drive me
nuts with the arguing, back talk and

always wanted to be going somewhere-
i miss them and wish that they were
with me.

i hate to even ask this...but i am going
to take a break for a bit. i am about to
enter a very sad and scary phase in life
and i feel that i need to concentrate on
some important life issues. so please
keep me and my family in your thoughts, prayers
etc. i have learned over the past year -that
this group of women are such a beautiful
force and that is why i ask. and don't
worry, no one is sick. we just need
positive thoughts, a little zen.

so i will be checking in occassionally and
emails are good. just don't want anyone
to think that i have left.

so more important today, than ever....my blessings

heather for her laughter, knowledge and strength. i simply don't
know what i would do without her.

cheri...raw loyalty and fiery spirit
gabe...huge smile and massive heart
clancy...beautiful voice, and new dance [the dip]
bryce...support and and levelhead
lynnie....kind spirit

elconquestador....he will read this and send me some snotty
email and make me laugh

my newly tilled/planted garden and green green lawn
sitting out in front of my outdoor fire...relaxed

happy summer to all and love the ones you are with!

the menagerie

we have new family members! gabe has adopted
an iguana from depauws lab and clancy has thrown
precaution to the wind and invested in some
very colorful fish. i am digging the orange rocks!
she found a very arsty aquarium at petsmart and
it goes perfectly in her very colorful room! i just
hope the fish last. she named them bob and fred
and gabe's iguana is bowser for now. we seem
to always have a hard time sticking with names.

my kids love animals and bryce just can't figure

out why we need any. but he is pretty good
about just going with the flow and besides, he
is rarely here and the kids are incharge of their
own clean up.

we will be welcoming a new pup this summer
and i am trying to put a game plan in place
before she gets here. the kids are so happy
that we are getting a dog. cheri' is just glad
that it will be a sturdier dog. she wants a great
dane when she gets out of college and has
her own place.

so with that being said - here is why my life
is so blessed...

cheri going off to chicago for her internship
our new family members
my great mother's day gifts
the sun finally finding it's way to indiana
dear friends near and far
el conquestador and the family moving to the ville
my packet of seeds waiting to hit the dirt

happy tuesday!

studio fridays [ [[ sounds]] ]

[peonies mysteriously appeared on my kitchen table]

studio sounds throughout the day and night
include...tv in the back ground, road sounds,
toilet running, keyboard [backspace is a popular
sound] telephone ringing, turning pages and
coffee slurping. as the day moves forward, you
will hear the bus stop, kids voices, sometimes
arguments, doors slamming and nightly walkers

but my favorite daily sounds are those that keep
me sane...here is what i am listening to -

jack johnson - lullabys [curious george]
ben harper - anyone of his cd's
matt costa - my sweet rose, sunshine [songs we sing]
jimmy buffett - need i say more
tom jones - its not unusual
bob marley - is this love
ray charles - [duets]

and so many more....

if you want to witness more sounds then skip your way over
here....

enjoy your weekend - take time to love the ones you love.
slow down, breath deep and live life

happy friday!

busybusybusy

long last week...i am dreaming of a

warm sandy beach. running my feet
through the rough sand - instant
pedicure. i am sure i am lazily coddling
a strong
margarita...yum!

i am finally finished with my graduation orders,

and once i get my two estimates off to clients
i get to take a deep breath.

bryce is running the mini this weekend. he has

really been kicking ass on his training. i don't
know how he does it...i suck air just watching
him. gabe shot a 50 today at his golf meet.
so he hit his goal and earned back his #3 spot.
he was happy. clancy is out on the porch with a
friend and i am loving the fact that i can see my
studio floor again.

i frantically pulled it together this morning - i had
a student come and shadow me this morning. she
is only a freshman and i hope that i let her see that
the world is hers. as i talked to her about design
options, i realized that 25 years ago [are you kidding
me...25 years!] when i was entering the real world
my options seemed to be teacher, nurse and secretary.
i majored in child development. i would rather jump
off a cliff! i made it through 2 years and i think my
gpa was a 1.7. but i could play a mean game of
quarters and drink any guy under the table. however,
this is no longer true. today...3 beers and i am done.

so to round out this day of babbling i will leave you
with some funnies...i am totally being a copy cat.
miz kelly rae was kind enough to share hers
[btw - check out her paintings - i dig them]

so here they are!
1. when i was little - i could walk on my hands, forever!

i was so limber that my feet would skim the floor. today
i can't even touch my toes.

2. i have quite a sassy mouth and most people don't
realize how shy insecure i really am

3. i dream of having my own stationary/textile design business

4. i hate when i hurt someones feeling

5. i will drive past my house and around the block if steve miller
band's [jungle love] is on the radio. i can't get out until it
plays all the way through

6. i am a closet dancer [outkast - hey ya! is a favorite]

7. i start a painting and struggle to finish it - this really isn't
funny. but it is one of my querks. i think i am afraid

of the result!

8. i can pop my hips out of joint.

9. when i am sitting around with my kids...they crack me
up. i wish i thought they were as hilarious when in public.

10. i make bitchin guacamole!

happy tuesday!

ode to friday

it's friday....amen!

this week have given me a swift kick in

the ass. i am wiped out and am dreaming
of a long nap this weekend.

yesterday when i opened the mailbox, i found
a card from a friend. inside she wrote...
[ i miss your friendship]. she lives one block
from my front door. it made me cry.

i have realized over the last year, that although
i have began my freelance journey - i am not
any less busy. i think i have more on my plate
now then when i went to an office everyday.
it truly is a better busy, but i have found that
i still can't say no. i am still pulled from many
directions. and since i have began working from
home - looking back on the year - i have
distanced myself from so many people.

i was burnt out on people and all the crap that
goes along with office politics, downtown politics
blah, blah blah. we live in a very small community
and if something happens, it is spread throughout
the county very quickly. there isn't much privacy
here. few honor others personal space. when
working in our office, i went from a cubicle, to
an office and back to a cubicle. when i had the
office - the door was my favorite feature. i could
close it - when i didn't want to listen in to the
town gossip. not that i didn't sit in on plenty.
but my door became my best friend. when we
had a new employee join the group, i went back
out to an open air office...i cringed everytime i
heard something i shouldn't.

when i received the card yesterday, alot of emotions

came to the surface of my pain. my friend - has become
friends with my previous boss and i know that subconciously
i have pulled back because of this. i know that she loves
me, but they have kids the same age in the same class.
but i had talked to her at length about issues i had
both personally and professionally with my boss. nothing
serious, just occassions where i needed to vent. and
because i trust few here, i worried that their friendship
over ruled our friendship. i knew i was pulling away - and
i just couldn't stop.

i have done this with many others. i am not trying to be
unfriendly - i just needed a break from all the gossip,
and involvement. i don't want to hear things that are
none of my business. it isn't healthy for my psychy.
i hold too much - to close to my heart. and i know
it is hard for people to understand this. they feel i am
not being friendly, that i am not playing the game. but
that is just what it is - a nasty, mean spirited game.

when i opened my card...i was in the middle of writing

a letter to my family. i love my warped little cherubs and
bryce dearly and i truly love the fact that i am available to
them at most any time...but they have began taking advantage
of my presence at home and my letter is titled...
[mama is tired]. you may see me on the news as the
mom who has gone on strike. and soooooo all the babbling
has a point - kelly is tired, as stated in a previous entry

tired kelly = bitchy kelly

i am missing all my painting - i was in a good flow
i am not accomplishing any of my 2006 goals
my studio is a fat mess
i have yet to take on art class
i have got to begin saying no more...on all sides

i will nuture my soul
i must rework my organization
i will make my family read my letter
i will take better care of my physical health

i will take time to nuture my friendships.
i will work on not allowing negative forces to
intrude on my life
i will start participating in my creative groups again
and i will take the time to read, paint and create
because these are the things that keep me sane
in the crazy superficial world.

just babbling again....have a happy weekend

the weigh in

after reading so many blogs talking about
spring renewal, personal worth, weight gain -
it has made me want to start fresh....yet again.

i guess that is life in a nut shell...picking up the
chard pieces of our daily lives and re-working
it when it is necessary.

if only i would take the time each day to do
what is necessary, to take steps so that i am
not continually fixing the leaks and holes

that i have created just by simply not paying
attention.

this past fall i did weight watchers and lost around

12 lbs. and it felt great. and as my 12th week came
i just decided that i needed that thursday evening to
make sure i was with my kids. there was also a
chick there who weighs you in, and everytime i
went up to be weighed, she would make a comment
about how she didn't know why i was there. it
really discouraged me. i was the smallest person
there. but when your next size up jeans need to
be greased before you put them on - then you feel
like you are big, no matter how much you weigh.

so 2 months ago i bought the new windsor pilates

with the resistant circle. okay that was all good,
it only took me 2 months of looking at it sitting in
front of the tv to decide - the hole needed to
be plugged!

so...i officially started monday. yes we must always
begin on the monday. tonight i went to the school
to do my cardio, so i weighed in. for the love of
god....why does every scale in the world weigh me
in at 10lbs more then my scale. looking at my
weight watchers booklet...i have gained back 8 of
the 12 i took off in the fall. thank you lord it wasn't
all 12, then i might have had to shoot myself [only joking].
my bathroom scales will be adjusted accordingly.

i have realized that i have gained almost 27lbs since
bryce and i got married 6 years ago. bryce on the
other hand has stayed skinny. but he doesn't eat
cheese fries and peanut m&m's either.

i have been enjoying the pilates. i love the stretching.
so i am taking my measurements and documenting them
tonight and in thirty days, i will check them again.
bye bye cheese fries!

on a creative note...i went to a new art coop opening
and even though most of the art was not to my taste...
seeing the artists and talking with them filled me with
such energy. i love going from studio to studio and listening
to each one, eyes wide open with such a love, such
creative force.

this place is a big daisy in a field of weeds. it sits
in the middle of a very itty bitty town and because
of the dedication of a few creative residents - a dream
has become.

happy to be.....

married to a blessed man who loves me even though
i am guirky and roly poly

in the middle of a big creative mess

the mommy to 3 beautiful, funny, warped, head strong cherubs

on the best street in town

asked to help out

healthy

so blessed...even though sometimes it slips my mind

contradictions

{a very messy desk}

i am always bewildered by all the contradictions

that we see daily. today while pulling out of the
cvs parking lot. i watched a young mother
riding a bike with a child cart in tow....she was
smoking a cigarette as she steered her toddler
down the street. as i smirked to myself, i realized
that i am not immune to these contradictions. i went
to cvs to pickup some bottled water after my
workout. i also picked up a natural health book...
okay so what is so contradictary about that?
i also spotted 1/2 price peeps and marshmallow
eggs. you know the ones, hard shell, brite happy
colors. I BOUGHT THEM! i had just worked out.

since my new career move of working from home, i
often spout about how more organized i am. the
image above is of my desk this very moment. hmmm....
seems i need to work on those organizational skills.

i am also often annoyed when i see a family or couple
out for a walk and someone in the group is chatting
on their cell phone. or a mom talks about how all the
time in the car going from activity to activity allows
for quality family time and everytime you see her, she
is on her cell phone.

just thinking outloud -

...happy tuesday!

good on friday

{original artwork - clancy and denisha}

no school today...this always seems to create caos
in the household. kids spending the nite. late
bedtimes. we had friends crash at our house last
nite and i ended up going to bed at 2am. so we
have a tired kelly.

tired + kelly = bitchy kelly.

bryce took the kids to meet their aunt this morning.
they will be with the dad for the weekend. after they
left i went into my studio to get a few things done and
like always - the playstation was not put away and clancy
left all my art supplies out. brushes were drying up, paint
everywhere. my new flower stamps full of paint. ughhhh...
can't it be simplier than this? so i called them on the cell
phone to discuss there antics. gabe of course, apologized
the second he got on the phone [he is like eddie haskle],
clancy on the other hand, was her usual defensive self.
not wanting to take on her respondsibility. so next time -
no studio time. maybe i should make my kids pay for
studio time. put down a deposit for use of my studio
and supplies.

the weather is beautiful again today in middle indiana.
sun is shining, walkers passing by. this weather makes
me happy. it is amazing how much i have gotten done
since the weather has warmed up. i am a sucky
winter person.

on this good friday, i am happy about....

-matt's visit today
easter this sunday
-my kick ass week
shoeless feet
-clancy's creation above
hearing gabe's bass from outside
-sitting on the porch swing and my kids coming out to join me
cheri' coming home
-and bryce stepping up and being the kids chauffer

many blessings to all this easter weekend...amen

happy friday!

camo scarf

i have finally finished my camo scarf. in the
comedy of kellys life, today it is 70 degrees
in the ville. such is life. i have come upon
so old vintage earrings. i am going to cut the
clip off and attach a pin back. i will crochet
a large flower and then attach it to the
crystal pin....sweet!

i still have 3 more scarves to finish. maybe this
next year, i can try to move on to some new
patterns.

lifelines

today while visiting my friends smed's
journal on diaryland...i was taken back by
his honest entry. he spilled, gushed and laid
it all out about his respect for his wife, liz.
{scott is in bottom row with the glasses}. i
adore liz and his honest, pretty love letter brought
me to tears.
not only because i know these two
personally, but
it is how i feel about my "b". he
is my light, rock
and the big oak of this family.
there are times that
i am so mad at him, i want
to scream and all he has
to do is give me one
look and i have to hide my
face so he won't see
me smile.

pictured above are also a few others who are our
lifelines. the guy in the sombrero...that is jeff. we
celebrated his 50th last friday nite at our local
and very tasty - mexican restaurant. the margaritas
are damn good too! i have known jeff for 20 years.
he sends all of us birthday cards every year. EVERY
YEAR! not just me and bryce, but all three of our
kids. and not just our family...EVERY ONE in our
family of friends....AMAZING! and then there is
pete and becky....whitey and leslie [they're my
in-laws.] he's the one with the $$$ and she is
wearing the glasses. of course i can't leave out
tom and heather. she's my partner in crime
and can sing a mean copacabana. there is
brent, greggie, amy, tank, steve and marty

these are our lifelines....some days i wish we had
friends who had friends with older kids, or more
friends from church and i wish i felt more trusting
towards people associated with bryce's job. but
at the end of the day when i lay my head next to
bryce...i am thankful for these lifelines. they have
blessed me with friendship, laughter...lot's of laughter,
theme party's, shoulder's to cry on. they are
my pep session in life.

amen.

happy tuesday...

summer feet

{summer feet}

today is the first day that i have gotten to kick
off my heavy winter worn shoes. no trouser

socks - windows thrown open.

indiana is having a beautiful day. no gray sky,
at least for now. this afternoon we are in for
more wind, rain - storms. but i am taking advantage
as long as i can.

there is a beautiful breeze flowing through my studio.
my house smells of fresh sheets in the summer.
the sun is warm and i am happy.

looking at my feet, i realize that they still show the
remains of last summers tan. they are in need of
a relaxing pedicure. but for today, they are free
of the stiffling socks and shoes. and they are very
happy with the fresh coat of polish.

enjoy your day!

they say it's your birthday...

oh miz clancyface, today you move
into the world of the older girlies....
but you have been there since the
day you were born. you were going

to be molly, until your cousin was born
12 hours before and she beat you to
to punch...so you got to go with clancy
our very own bit of irish

always wanting more, living out loud
and rarely taking no for an answer.

you love being smack dab in the middle
of it all. you feel deeply like me and
you love to live life. you are pouty, moody,
caring, and can sing sing sing.

your hair stood on end from the day you
came into the world till the day you were

baptized. it was a divine intervention of the
hair. i mean really, how long could you take
being referred to as woodstock.

born the day before st. paddys day and always

having to share the birthday glory with miz molly,
you have been a huge brite light in all of our lives

and somedays your spirit needs to be reigned just
an itty bitty bit. but i cherish the days i can hear
you singing gospel in the shower, watching you
defend the little man and watching you work to
accomplish whatever it has been that you believe.

clancy the chick who never gives up or gives in...
may your day be filled with laughter and many
suprises and blessings.

holy shit!

these blissful books have all been purchased
in the past 6 months. i have yet to sit down
and read them. oh, i have scimmed through
the majority of them. but i have all this inspiration
at my finger tips and i can't seem to schedule
in reading time. not only that, i am realizing that
i am addicted to books, as i am addicted to art
supplies. i have no problem going out and buying
150.00 worth of paints, metals, beads, canvas -

but to go out and buy myself clothes...holy
shit - no way! books and art supplies fit, no matter
what! and i can get more for my money, and they
make me happy...oh so gleefully happy. how do
all of you fit your creative time into your schedules.
i have realized that i seem tied to my computer, if i am
not laying out designs, i am checking emails, blogs,
artistic sites for inspiration. i am going to have to
schedule my life and be strict about it! i say yes to
to many things that take me away from what i love
most
[next to my cherubs].. sure i can do that.
"oh, you need
that layed out?" oh let me do it, it
will be faster. and
before i can even say
"Holy New Year's Eve, he has me in his famous trick streamers!"
another whole week has sped past me and i still haven't

gotten to my painting. so please, please, please leave
me your advice....i would so love you for the kindness.

check out michelle today....i dig her post
and she looks really sassy with the pink flower in
her hair!

steppin' away

the lovely and oh so talented mati doodled this on my
envelope that her prints came in...check her stuff out here
i dig this doodle!

a great big hug to each of you this week.
lain...thanks for the silly comment...you
are so sweet and you made my day.

i have such a busy week. we have a little visitor
for the week, while his mom and dad are vacationing.
i am in the middle of a large site map, revising
a website and i have a sign to put together.

today while attending mass, fr. dave pointed out
things to think about during this lenten season.
he talked about things that control our personal
freedom; anger, technology, envy, jealousy, etc-
etc-etc....all of those things control my everyday.
and so this week, i am going to work hard on my
design jobs, my paintings and my little visitor. i
also know that i have been allowing myself to sink
deep into the world of envy. i have to tell you all
that my life freelancing couldn't be happier. i love
being at home when my kids get off the bus. i am

blessed to be able to take off a day if i want or need
to. but i still wake up everyday and begin to compare
myself to so many others. if i could change anything

about myself - this would be the thing to change.
and so, through lent, i will be working on personal
inventory. the homily today was so beautiful and

i left church knowing that god was speaking to me.

i am going to be up late tonight playing catch up.
i wanted to have a large portion of the map done
by the end of the weekend, but as always, i allowed
too many outside influences, control my schedule.
and so since i play on the internet way too much...
sorry but you chicks are so inspiring i have a hard
time staying away...i need to step away and get
some work done.

blessing throughout the week...

studio friday {something old.....}

something old, something new,
something borrowed, something blue

a. blue - my handy blue clipboard. one of my favorite bargains
b. new - purchases for my painting. i got all these on a trip
last friday. there is a happy shop called {archivers} on
the southside of indy. i am not into scrapbooking, but
this place is full of great mixed media finds. i could have
shopped there all day. i also found some fun little magnets
in the dollar bin at target.
c. old - my trust old brushes. i just can't part with any of them!
d. borrowed - time. i feel like i am always on borrowed time. making
time up here and there.

have a great monday!

happy tuesday

{layers of sketches on tracing paper}

happy TUESDAY to all. what a
great long weekend we had. the
kids were gone. saturday, b and
worked the boys swim sectional and
chs came out on top by 8 points...WHEW
that was close. the boys threw b in
and i had to bring him a change of clothes.
it was so cold, he would have been a

thebug

here is where i am at this morning.... i feel just plain crappy

my eyes are burning, my head is achey and i just
want to go to bed and pull
the covers over my
head. [sorry about the bad
rhymn...not intentional.]
i have the "incredible
shrinking eyes" syndrome.
the older i get, the
smaller my eyes get and my
annoying allergies
don't help in this matter.

we have a bug in our house. he has been
visiting for a few weeks. nothing major, but
he is here lurking and jumping back and forth
between the 4 of us. the can of lysol is coming
out!

this is what i want to look like, i want some
energy, i want this headache to go away. i am
crabby and tired. so that is where i am at today.
i think i will work on my new mixed media piece
and finish that up. that will make me feel better.

on another note...look at that my bitchin' superhero

necklace! isn't she pretty. it makes me happy
to wear her.

thankful on thursday....

seeing the jack johnson video this morning
laughing about sticking my foot in it with my old boss
my warm striped blanket wrapped around me
dove chocolates
giggling with gabe and clancy this a.m.
looking over at my new collage

the phone message from swirly that i can't erase
and listen to over and over again

my emails from
kim, melanie, penelope and tine

very thankful for mac, el conquestador and steph
last nites visit with an old friend
warm showers

my cappuccino machine

...amen
happy thursday

fear [studio friday]

{when you hold back on life, LIFE holds back
on you.}
MARY MANIN MORRISSEY

FEAR...seems to rule my creative life. i have been
staring at the mixed media piece above for over
two weeks. i have put my taxes on top of it,
books have been placed on top as well. my mess
seems to continually find its spot there. i cleaned
a bit yesterday, i seem to clean up everday. never
finding time to just loose myself in the studio. i
lose myself in the untidyness. i can always find
something else to do. i fear that i am not good
enough. i fear what would happen if i did succeed.
i fear making too much money - not enough money.
that i may gain recognition, yet i yearn for recognition.

i have an unbelievable support system, from all sorts
of walks of life. many i haven't even personally met.
but they are there cheering me on.

i want to feel worthy, i need to believe that this
is what i am meant to do. i have to rise above
the fear.

cotton candy

{oh so happy...}
this is just a really quick
and heartfelt post...i just
went to the post and found
an oh so happy postal envelope
addressed to my husband from
miz andrea scher.

i am an official superhero...yippee!!!

bryce of course is the true hero in
all of this. and if you knew how
hard it is for him to splurge and
give gifts, well then you would
know why i am singing his praises!

not only do i have my cotton candy
bauble, i also have andrea's biz
card and a lovely superhero design
postcard that i can hang on my
eye candy sphere!

happy wednesday - now i am off
to show it off over lunch
